WORCESTER City may have to call an extraordinary general meeting by next Thursday following a renewed bid to seize power by the Shareholders Action Group.
A third request was submitted to the St George’s Lane club on October 9 but was only made public today, 24 hours after City unveiled plans for a proposed new stadium at Nunnery Way.
The club have acknowleged receipt of the bid but are yet to make a formal response.
Only last month the shareholders group said they were not pressing ahead with their plans to oust the board of directors and would instead rather work with an administrator because they felt the club was in danger of folding.
However, the group, fronted by former directors Derek Jones and Paul Curtis, have changed its mind, citing the club’s failure to announce its annual meeting in September.
Their latest bid gave the Blue Square South club 21 days to call the EGM, which would be next Thursday, and the meeting would have to be held no more than 28 days after that date.
The group also claim they have the required 10 per cent of shareholder backing, something which has seen previous attempts fail.
City chairman Dave Boddy said: “The club is aware of the EGM request and will dealt with accordingly. I am disappointed, particularly on the back of yesterday’s news.”
Former director Jones said: “We have had no response officially from the club, neither verbal or written.”
