KATE Foster and Marcia Macfarlane both made the most of excellent scoring conditions to capture their first major trophies of the season at The Worcestershire Golf Club.
Foster triumphed in the Peg Evans Centenary Cup, while Macfarlane won the Malvern Wells-based club’s prestigious Winners Cup.
It was Foster’s first victory in a competition since the March medal, but she did it in style notching up 31 stableford points in the competition which was reduced to 15 holes because of the major work taking place on the course. Her score included a birdie on the par-three eighth hole.
Elsie Kelsall finished second with 30 points with Ursula Pearson edging out Maggie Wilson and Penny Stevenson on count-back after all three returned 28 points.
In the Winners’ Cup medal event, Macfarlane, playing off 17, led the field with a nett 75, one stroke ahead of Alex Dunster with Alison Tuck a further shot adrift.
Macfarlane said she was thrilled to win the Cup. She said: “My front nine was very good and, although the standard scratch increased to 76, I had a great day and am not complaining.”
The club’s ladies’ section will be holding their annual general meeting and presentation evening tomorrow (7pm).
There will also be a mixed competition on Sunday from 9.30am until noon, while the lady captain’s drive-in is next Tuesday.
