WORCESTER Table Tennis League Division Two newcomers Dukes Way had a baptism of fire as they crashed 10-0 to Broadheath Belters.
But there were some close sets with Collette James, in particular, playing well to extend the experienced Ken Hipwell to a deciding set.
YMCA Enigma, another new team with players from an old team, suffered a 9-1 defeat to YMCA Elizabethans.
Number one Mark Haines recorded their lone win in a see-saw game against Brian Ovington, leaving Elizabethans’ Dean Lewis and Reg Stobbs unbeaten.
Elizabethans also faced St Martin’s but were on the wrong end of a 9-1 defeat. Lewis beat Tony Harding in their only success.
They did, however, come close in the doubles with Lewis and Dave Bradley playing Dave Watton and Simon Gibson.
Watton and Gibson won the first two sets but Lewis and Bradley fought back well to set up a decider which the Saint’s pair won.
