FOUR Worcestershire schools have qualified for this season’s Army West Midlands Schools Sevens finals day at Stourbridge’s Stourton Park ground on Thursday.

Worcester’s Christopher Whitehead School and The Chase, from Malvern, will represent Worcestershire in the boys’ competition, while The Chantry High School, from Martley, and Worcester-based Bishop Perowne College have qualified for the girls’ finals.

They qualified from the Worcestershire sevens at Bromsgrove’s Finstall Park ground, where The Chase beat Christopher Whitehead five tries to one in the final.

Blessed Edward Oldcorne Catholic College, from Worcester, the defending West Midlands champions, did not qualify for the semi-finals.

The Chantry defeated Bishop Perowne eight tries to six in the girls’ final.

The finals day will also feature Ludlow School and Meole Brace School (boys) and Church Stretton School and Charlton School (girls) from Shropshire.

Handsworth Grammar School and Summerhill (boys) and Summerhil and Shenley Court (girls) will represent Birmingham and the Black Country. Schools from across Staffordshire and Warwickshire will also be involved after they have completed their qualifying events.

Last year, more than 1,000 youngsters, all aged under 16, took part in the event with Blessed Edward Oldcorne Catholic College winning the boys’ event and Church Stretton School taking the girls’ crown.
