THEY might be on the verge of reaching the first round proper of the FA Cup for the first time in their history but Evesham United won’t be allowing themselves to think about that on Saturday.

The Robins beat Chasetown last Saturday to set up a fourth qualifying round clash with Blue Square Premier outfit Rushden and Diamonds next weekend.

However, that will be put to one side as Paul West’s men attempt a similar feat in the FA Trophy, starting against Clevedon in the first qualifying round at St George’s Lane (3pm).

The sides have already met once in the British Gas Business Premier Division this season with Clevedon winning 2-0 at the Hand Stadium last month when Evesham had two players sent off.

But West insists his players will be more than ready on Saturday as they bid to progress and pocket £2,300 in prize money.

He said: “We are still going to enjoy all the things that went on last weekend but then it will be about keeping our heads clear and getting ready for a tough game in the Trophy.

“It’s another cup competition we want to do well in.

“The whole club will be buzzing but my job is to make sure we keep our feet on the ground.

“That’s what we have done for the last few seasons.

“It’s a brand new start for us on Saturday and Clevedon won’t be worried about what we have been doing.

“They have already beaten us this season and we want to put the record straight.”

Evesham have a full-strength squad to pick from with West adding: “There’s fierce competition for places and that’s very healthy for the team.

“It’s up to the players to keep their places.”
