WORCESTER Women suffered a disappointing double defeat, including an English Hockey Association Cup knock-out.

In the Midlands Premier Division, the city side went down 2-1 at a physical Hampton side.

An unlucky cup draw at English Premier Division club Olton and West Warwicks ended in a 10-1 thrashing the next day.

Worcester had the edge in the first-half of the league match but were unable to take their chances.

Elaine Shepperd went close from penalty corners forced by good possession but Hampton finished the opener clinically two minutes before the interval.

Despite strong tackling from Hampton, the visitors looked dangerous with Rachel Creese, Jenny Rogers and Helen Barnes setting up many attacks.

But Hampton scored a second from a penalty corner before Libby Hayes missed narrowly with a fierce shot at the other end.

Worcester did find the net when a move from defence ended with Shepperd firing in after Julie Harwood beat the advancing keeper.

In the cup match, Worcester faced England international Rachel Walker, who hails from the city.

Worcester defended well in the first-half with goalkeeper Hannah Beasley-Suffolk making crucial saves.

Relentless pressure gave Olton three goals before half-time.

The hosts played fine hockey, scoring at regular intervals, but Worcester did find the net.

Lucy Scales bagged her first goal for the team after a good right-wing move.

Scales was also on target as Worcester Seconds lost 5-1 to Bromsgrove in Worcestershire League Division One.

She pounced early on as they controlled the first-half but Bromsgrove equalised from a short corner close to half-time.

The game slipped away from tired Worcester with three goals in a 10-minute spell and they conceded a fifth near the end.

The thirds were a player down in Division Three and fielded many new faces as they lost 4-0 to Pershore.

In a disorganised first six minutes, Worcester fell two goals behind against well-drilled opposition.

Despite letting in two more before half-time, they improved defensively and created several chances in the second period.

Erin Clark, Tilly Hallet and Jodie Palmer scored as the fourths fell 6-3 to King’s Heath Seconds.

But the team played well, using the wings impressively and communicating better than before.
