STOURPORT claimed their first Slazenger English League Men’s Conference West win of the season in style.
Phil Lashford (2), Luke Edwards, Andrew Langlands, Imran Yousaf and Andrew Cavendish helped them to a 6-1 thumping of struggling Bristol club Firebrands.
Stourport Women are up and running in Midlands Division One after a 3-1 win over Charnwood.
Kerry Maughan missed a penalty flick on 15 minutes but, five minutes later, the first goal arrived with a great individual effort from Jodi Vincent.
They kept the lead up to half-time with the help of fine saves from Sophie Wood.
Charnwood equalised in the second period but Stourport were camped in their half for the final 15 minutes.
Kate Fletcher deflected a free-hit into the corner to put them ahead and Vincent added her second after good work from Claire Dodd and Vickie Kovacs.
Georgi Burns was Stourport’s player-of-the-match.
However, they slipped up in the English Hockey Association Cup the next day, losing 3-2 at Deeside Ramblers to a golden goal in extra-time.
Stourport took the lead on 12 minutes through Hannah Goss from Maughan’s free-hit but Deeside levelled quickly and were 2-1 ahead by the break.
In the second period, resurgent Stourport equalised with eight minutes left when Suzanne Symonds fired home at the back post.
But the hosts capitalised on an error to pinch the winner.
Stourport’s player-of-the-match was Gemma Brookes.
Goss and Caroline Sidell scored for the seconds in a 2-2 draw with Redditch Firsts in Worcestershire League Division One.
Katie Robinson, Shelley Tromans and Brookes all impressed.
Stourport Thirds lost 3-0 at home to Cresconians in Division Two with Emma O’Hara voted player-of-the-match.
The fourths saw off Redditch Seconds 5-0 with Holly Lashford and Teri Baron among the scorers.
