WORCESTER Swimming Club’s leading competitors enjoyed success at the county youth sprints.

Poppy Bramford had an excellent day and showed real class to win the 15/16-year-old 50-metre breaststroke convincingly.

Bramford also finished a close second in her 100m individual medley.

Another gold medallist was Amy Cooke who produced a stunning 50m butterfly swim.

With a much improved start and turn, her usual speed enabled her to storm to victory in the 14-year-old age group.

The 13 and under age group saw the club’s swimmers collect nine medals with Severin Narraine, Tabitha Monkhouse and Hannah Watts all winning three each.

In the boys’ events, Narraine continued his rich vein of form with sparkling swims in the 50m freestyle (second), 50m breaststroke (second) and 50m backstroke (third).

In the girls’ events, Monkhouse and Watts enjoyed a close-fought battle in the 50m butterfly. The former finished 0.38 seconds ahead on that occasion, winning silver to Watts’ bronze.

Monkhouse went on to also win silver in the 50m breaststroke and bronze in the 100m individual medley.

However, Watts was not to be outdone and produced arguably the two most impressive swims, winning silvers in both the 50m backstroke and 50m freestyle.

Other medallists included Katherine Rollins, third in the 17 and over 50m backstroke and 50m breaststroke, and Rupert Monkhouse, third in the 14-year-old 50m butterfly and 100m individual medley.

Club head coach Mark Stowe said: “This wasn’t a target meet. Instead, our preparations are centred around the club’s own open meet at the end of October.

“On that basis, it was very encouraging to see so many fine performances this early in the season.”
