EVESHAM United boss Paul West will be looking for a polished display from his FA Cup heroes when they host Rushden and Diamonds in the FA Cup fourth qualifying round.
The Robins were handed one of the Blue Square Premier gems as their reward for seeing off the side who lit up last season’s FA Cup — Chasetown — at the weekend.
Once again West’s side stand a potential 90 minutes away from facing one of five former winners of the world’s most famous domestic cup competition.
“It’s a fantastic draw,” said West, who missed Saturday’s 2-0 victory over Chasetown as he attended former Aston Villa midfielder Hassan Kach-loul’s wedding in St Tropez.
“I was sat in a coffee shop in the south of France listening on the loud speaker as the second goal went in on Saturday.
“Now we have got a Blue Square Premier side at home in the next round. We were at this stage last year (Evesham lost 2-1 in the replay at Halifax Town) and to think were are just one game away from drawing Leeds United or Leices-ter City is a fantastic achievement.”
But West is not looking past Rushden on Saturday, October 25, despite seeing off the team that reached the third round proper last year.
“Rushden are an excellent side and it will be a massive game for us and one that puts us on the footballing map for an afternoon,” manager West said.
“We can’t expect to do what Chasetown did last year.
“All we can do is try and create history for this football club by reaching the first round proper.”
Meanwhile, Kidderminster Harriers have been handed a tricky tie in their fourth qualifying round clash as they face a long trip to Blue Square North newcomers King’s Lynn.
Aggborough chief Mark Yates said: “There are certainly easier draws in there — they’re a good side.
“They won promotion last year and have started off very well again this season so it’s a big test for us, but one we’ll be looking forward to when the time comes.”
