WORCESTERSHIRE ‘B’ are on the verge of winning their regional league for the first time in their history.
The team, which plays at Rileys on the Shrub Hill Industrial Estate, take on Warwickshire in their penultimate match in region five of the English Pool Association tomorrow.
With just three points seperating the top three sides, victory for third-placed Worcestershire over their second-placed rivals would keep them on course for the title ahead of their final match at Buckinghamshire next month.
The team, led by manager Lester Crook and captain Diego Maese, are the only county side who can realistically win their region with Worcestershire ‘A’ 35 points behind leaders Northamptonshire in their table.
The ladies go into the match with their Warwickshire counterparts looking to avoid finishing bottom of their table, while the youth team could stake a claim for second place with a good result.
Meanwhile, ‘A’ team cueman Shane Surridge led his Worcester Pool League side to the semi-finals of the Minehead Open.
Fox U, who play in both the Tuesday and Wednesday lea-gues, flew the flag for the county in reaching the last four from a field of 84.
As well as Surridge, the team, who won £500 for their efforts, also comprised Fred Tandy, Ash Wylde, Dan Brazil, Dan Garwood and Jamie Driscoll.
