MY leg injury is slowly getting better and is starting to improve — it has felt a lot better this week — and hopefully it shouldn’t be too long before I am back in training.
On balance, we probably deserved to win the game against Leicester Tigers at Sixways. It was a very tight match and we didn’t take our chances to win it.
The game was a measure of how much we’ve changed. We lost the game, but our performance was good — we are moving in the right direction.
It was a big test to back up the performance against Was-ps with another huge performance and, although the result wasn’t what we wanted, the effort was really good.
I didn’t get a good look at the disputed Toby Flood penalty, but it was a penalty because the ref gave it and we haven’t given it any more thought.
Netani Talei scored a great try for us and I’m not sure many other back rows would have completed that try.
Plenty would have made the break, but he had the gas to go all the way and over the line — he is really improving for us.
A lot of players put in good performances week in, week out and get taken for granted, but none more so than Dale Rasmussen. Dale had a massive game in defence — at one stage he made five huge tackles in about three minutes, which is fantastic.
I have so much respect for him. His defence is amazing —he is arguably the best defender I have ever played with.
We joined Worcester at about the same time and you can’t underestimate his commitment to the club both on and off the field.
Another player who has be-gun the season in good form is Chris Pennell — he is looking a top player and has arguably been our best performer over the last two games. I am really pleased for him — he is a fantastic player and a good kid.
We are really lucky at Worcester with the number of quality youngsters coming through from the academy and making a mark in the first team.
All credit has to go to academy manager Andrew Stanley, who is doing a great job.
It is a blow for the team and the player that Will Bowley has broken his thumb, but that is one of the pitfalls of playing rugby — he will get over it, though. However, we are lucky that we have got three very good second rows at the club.
We have to have that, th-ough, because everyone in the squad will play plenty of matches this year — it is no longer a 15 or 22-man game these days. We will need all of our players — you can see that from the intensity of the fixtures we’ve played so far and the knocks people have taken.
It is fantastic that someone like Craig Gillies can come into the team — he will come in and do a great job. He will be fired up because you want to play every game and he has been on the bench recently.
With our team, people aren’t dropped, they are rested — we will need to use everyone at this level of intensity.
On Saturday, we go down to Bath and we will be looking to get our first Premiership win at The Rec. It is always a partisan place to go to, but it is a nice arena to play in and it will be our goal to go there and win. With the talent we have and the way we are playing, we shouldn’t fear anyone.
