CONFIDENT Hal Luscombe is planning to create history as a Worcester Warrior by bringing top-flight silverware to Sixways.
The former Harlequins centre believes Worcester’s attacking style of play, implemented by director of rugby Mike Ruddock, suits his game well.
When he recovers from the knee injury that is set to keep him out of action until Octo-ber, the South African-born Welsh international is relishing working with his former coach.
Luscombe, who was part of Ruddock’s 2005 Grand Slam-winning Welsh side as well as playing under the Warriors boss when they were both at Newport Gwent Dragons, said: “Having worked with Mike before was definitely a big factor in me coming to Worcester — we’ve worked together before, understand each other and I like the way he coaches.
“It was not the only reason, though, as I realised how ambitious the club is. It was a good opportunity for me to come here — a club with a good history, but one that hasn’t won much silverware. That meant I could come here and help create history.
“There are quite a lot of differences between Quins and Worcester. Quins are a club that are going in the right direction too, but the coaching styles are quite different.
“The type of game Mike coaches Worcester to play is a lot more suited to my game than the Quins game was.”
The 27-year-old also believes the Warriors fans have a big part to play in Worcester having a successful season.
He added: “The fans can play a huge part for us — I’ve played here a few times in the past and it’s always been pretty hostile.
“It is the type of atmosphere that, as a player, you want to have them with you, not ag-ainst you.
“I’m looking forward to getting out there, playing as well as I can and getting the crowd behind us because they will be a massive help.
“I really don’t think there is another place like Sixways in the Premiership. It has got to be at the top with regard to the facilities, recovery modules and everything else.
“Everything is in place here and the players are really looked after — everything we need is here.”
