EVESHAM United manager Paul West has threatened to axe players from the club if they don’t improve their discipline.

Two players were sent off and a further five booked during Tuesday’s 2-0 British Gas Business Premier Division defeat at Clevedon Town.

Goalkeeper Nathan Vaughan saw red for using an elbow on Josh Brigham, while Mark Hands was shown a second yellow six minutes from time.

West was also angry at his players confronting the referee over decisions and has vowed to get tough ahead of Saturday’s visit to Swindon Supermarine (3pm).

He said: “Five yellow and two red cards is not acceptable and it will be dealt with in-house. If they don’t learn, maybe they will have to move on. The discipline or lack of it was the key situation.

“I can take losing if we have a bad day at the office and come up against sides better than us but we were not beaten by Clevedon.

“We beat ourselves and that’s disappointing. We are not looking to point fingers at anybody bar ourselves.

“We accept officials have a difficult job and sometimes you have to accept you don’t get the rub of the green, but far too many of my players got involved with things they shouldn’t.

“It was just one of those nights which is best forgotten. It’s a realisation of the level we have gone into and we have got to make sure we are not too downbeat about it.

“The players have to accept it was a bad day at the office and learn from it.”

Supermarine have made a flying start to the campaign with four wins from their first six games.

They lost 4-1 at home to Corby last Saturday before bouncing back with a 2-1 win at Merthyr Tydfil in mid-week.
