DARYL Burgess is expected to be in caretaker charge of Bromsgrove Rovers when they visit Barton Rovers on Saturday (3pm).
The Victoria Ground club are currently interviewing for a new manager following Duane Darby’s shock departure last week.
Burgess oversaw last Saturday’s embarrassing 2-1 FA Cup preliminary round defeat at Ellesmere Rangers, of the West Midlands League Premier Division, but is likely to get another chance at Sharpenhoe Road.
Although Rovers have had 17 applicants for the vacant post, chairman Tom Herbert is not expected to appoint before Saturday’s trip to Bedfordshire.
Whoever eventually does take on the mantle will become Rovers’ sixth boss since Gary Hackett and Jon Ford left the club in May 2003.
It is not known whether former West Brom defender Burgess is in the running for the job on a permanent basis but he could give his chances a boost with success at Barton.
Rovers have taken four points from their first four games but are in need of a confidence boost following their premature exit from the cup last weekend.
Burgess said: “I’ve had a few people ring me up saying, if I go for the job, they’d be glad to help me.
“But it’s a case of the chairman needing to pick the right manager and that is his decision.”
