PLOUGH AC’s Dave Warren became only the second club member to break the 50lb match weight this year.
Warren won his club’s latest encounter on the back two canals at Hillview fishery.
Drawn on peg 17, he offered his pellet bait across to the far bank weed bed to net a level 53lb of carp and silver fish along with a place in the singles final against reigning club champion Andy Sankey.
Taking 29-7 from the adjacent peg 16 was runner-up Keith Holt whose net came to pellet and meat.
Third-placed Anthony Staite used pole and paste into the margins to weigh 28-1.
Section winners, A: current league leader Mike Hope; B: Nick Doherty; C: Tony O’Neil.
While weights have been excellent from the Laugherne Island Pool at the Cob House fishery, they were eclipsed by a recent open on the Oak Pool where three anglers broke the magic ton barrier.
On top at the recent Wednesday open was Greenman matchman Nobby Clark who hammered out 152-1 of small carp on pellet from peg 10 for a comfortable victory.
Venue regular Mick Turberfield came second with 135-12 from peg five and third was Alan Higgs, taking 108-8 to the scales from peg seven.

Ashley Bosworth continued his dominance of Barbourne club contests when he scored an emphatic victory at Elmbridge Fishery.

Club star Pete Hughes was runner-up with 45-7 on pellet and Andy Wheeler came third, weighing 42-7 to beat fourth-placed Mick Taylor’s margin-caught net of 40-6.

Prospects: With the weather cooling down, sport should improve on all venues with rivers, in particular, starting to provide good catches.
On stillwaters, carp are coming regularly to anglers using sweetcorn in the margins, while, on the canal, hemp could be the top bait.
