A NIGHTMARE night for Evesham’s goalkeepers saw the Robins crash to defeat against a side hammered 6-1 at Stourbridge last Saturday.
Nathan Vaughan was red-carded after 38 minutes for elbowing Josh Brigham and replacement Karl Lewis spilled a regulation pick-up four minutes later for Kyle Bassett to net.
That made it 2-0 after Vaughan’s unnecessary indiscretion brought Town a penalty that was converted by Lewis Powell.
To make matters worse, Mark Hands received a second yellow card six minutes from time on a sorry night.
Paul West’s men failed to make the most of the strong wind on a horrible night by the sea and their only first-half effort of note saw Hands hit the post from close-range on 33 minutes.
Clevedon had created nothing worthy of mention which made Vaughan’s rash action all the more galling after he was held by Brigham as he attempted a quick clearance.
Lewis’ mistake meant double trouble although the former Bromsgrove keeper did redeem himself slightly when he plunged at the near post to prevent a corner from Lee Jenkins creeping into the net.
Danny Lennon had a late shot saved and sub Allando Davis hit the follow-up wide.
Exeter referee Rodda booked five visiting players and two from the winning side.
