1983 - At 17, youngest player to be selected to play for Zimbabwe in the World Cup.
1984 - Signed for Worcestershire making 84 not out on his debut against Surrey.
1986 - Aged just 20, he became the youngest player to score 2,000 first class runs in a season. He went on to be named as one of Wisden’s cricketers of the year.
1988 - Notched up his career-best 405 against Somerset at Taunton.
1990 - Became the youngest player to score 50 first-class centuries.
1991 - Became eligible to play for England and makes his debut against the West Indies at Leeds, scoring six in both innings.
Selected for the winter tour to New Zealand.
1992 - Makes his first Test 50 against Pakistan at Edgbaston but is dropped later in the series.
Earns a recall for the winter tour of India, hitting his maiden Test century in Bombay.
1993 - Plays first two Ashes Tests but is then dropped before being selected again for the final Test.
1994 - Hits his first Test century on English soil, 110 against South Africa at Headingley. He followed that up with scores of 80 and 98.
However, after loss of form he was again dropped for the international scene for almost two years.
1995 - Career-best bowling performance with figures of five for 18 against Leicestershire.
1998 - Hits his 100th career century against Sussex and recalled to the England squad to face South Africa.
Omitted from the winter Ashes tour party.
1999 - Represented England in the World Cup but failed to shine. Captained Worcestershire and later in the year took the position on a permanent basis.
2000 - Re-united with former coach as Duncan Fletcher selects Hick for England.
Scored a century at Lord’s but another spell of poor form saw him move to number seven in the batting order.
Salvaged his England career by scoring a crucial 59 as a nightwatchman in the win at Headingley.
2001 - Receives one-match suspended sentence for dissent after his controversial dismissal against Sri Lanka in Galle.
Dropped again and replaced by Michael Vaughan for the deciding Test in Colombo, signalling the end of his Test career which was quickly followed by his one-day exclusion.
2003 - A broken hand curtailed his domestic campaign and saw him finish the season with an average of just 33.50 - his worst performance since 1991.
2004 - Scores 1,589 first-class runs at 63.56, his best aggregate since 1990.
2006 - Scores 100th century for Worcestershire, passing 1,000 runs for the summer for the 19th time.
Signs one-year contract extension despite interest from Derbyshire.
2007 - June: Becomes the 16th player to score 40,000 first-class runs.
July: Agrees another one-year contract extension.
2008 - July: Claims 1,000th career catch.
September 2: Announces retirement.
