WESTFIELDS gave a disappointing display in the FA Cup preliminary round, going out 4-2 at home to Stratford Town.

The Hereford side could have eased through but were guilty of poor first-half defending and wayward finishing in the second period.

Stratford were given a gift start when they scored in only the third minute through Matt Gasper from 18 yards.

Westfields were level within 12 minutes when Jamie Edwards turned neatly to score from 25 yards.

But Stratford regained the lead with Jamie Petty’s 20-yard free-kick.

Fields were punished again for poor defending when Matt Blair extended the Stratford lead on the half-hour.

Mark Hibbard made it 3-2 soon after with a penalty following a foul on Sam Harrison but Stratford restored their two-goal advantage just before half-time through a Gasper header.

After the break, Jamie Cuss was among those to go close but Fields fell short.

They visit Alvechurch tomorrow night in the Midland Alliance (7.45).

Meanwhile, Bromyard Town were beaten 5-1 by Alliance side Barwell in the preliminary round. The visitors took control, opening the scoring in the 16th minute after some sloppy defensive play by Bromyard.

With only three minutes played in the second-half, Bromyard gave away a penalty which was converted.

Barwell added three more goals with Bromyard getting a late consolation header from new signing Cieran Sheehan.

Keeper Darren Knurek saved Bromyard’s blushes with a string of fine saves.

Pegasus Juniors drew 1-1 with Hellenic League Premier Division new boys Reading Town.

Mark Davies put Juniors ahead on 54 minutes but Scott Rees levelled 10 minutes from time.

Pegasus head to Almondsbury Town on Wednesday night (7.30).
