WORCESTERSHIRE last night received a boost on the injury front after being told that Matt Mason won’t be out for the season.
A scan revealed that the Australian-born seamer had a small tear in the pectoral muscle in his chest and it is hoped that he will be able to return after next week’s crucial LVCC Division Two title clash with Warwickshire.
It was feared that the 34-year-old would be out for the remainder of the campaign joining Simon Jones in the treatment room.
However, the New Road side are anxiously awaiting results from Kabir Ali’s back scan.
The country’s leading wicket-taker was seen by specialists on Wednesday and director of cricket Steve Rhodes had hoped to know the diagnosis last night.
“We had hoped to know by now,” Rhodes said. “But hopefully will we find out today.”
The New Road chief will be hoping for another dose of good news as it will be a major blow to their title aspirations should he be without his three senior seamers for Tuesday’s table-topping match.
