TWO clubs have joined forces in an historic merger to secure the future of women’s hockey in the Malvern Hills district.
Following a season of negotiations, the teams from Malvern and Colwall agreed to the amalgamation at their respective annual meetings.
They now form Colwall and Malvern Hockey Club (CMHC) with the new sports centre at Malvern St James school as their home ground. With the ongoing support of the Brewers Arms, it looks to be an exciting season ahead.
The club will also be working with the regional sports development officer to strengthen hockey in the area.
Club chairman Vikki Atkinson said: “This marks the start of a new era of hockey in the Malvern Hills community and we are striving to develop and expand the club while maintaining a friendly, family orientated ethos.
“That’s really important to us in making the sport accessible to all.”
The club will be fielding two teams in the West Clubs League and new players are welcome throughout the season.
A club open day is planned for Saturday, September 13, from 2pm start at Malvern St James. There are no trials, age or skill restrictions or requirements to play in matches.
The weekly training sessions start next Wednesday from 7pm until 8pm at the school’s astro pitch.
Anyone interested in the club can call Sarah Mace on 07506-409627 or check their page on the Facebook website.
