EVESHAM’S Simon Andrews had to settle for sixth and seventh at Cadwell Park as injuries prevented him from going all out at the Lincolnshire circuit.
The 25-year-old went in to the race still nursing a broken hand and torn knee ligaments and failed to make an impact on the leaders in either race, adding 19 points to his Bennetts British Superbike championship tally.
But, after watching Leon Haslam top the podium in both races, the Jentin Yahama rider was happy with his efforts after racing through the pain barrier to climb to eighth in the overall standings.
“It was hard in the first race because my arms and hands were giving me real trouble,” he said.
“It made the race a complete nightmare because for the last four laps I could barely ride the bike at all.
“I was having to coast for that last four laps but I managed seventh place, which I was delighted with, but at the end of the race I was completely exhausted, which made the second race a bit difficult.
“My body is struggling and I was really looking to just get the second race over with.
“The second race was a struggle but again I managed to get a good finish so I’m delighted.”
Haslam was the star of the show as he continued his hot streak at Cadwell Park by twice pipping Tom Sykes to the chequered flag.
But championship leader Shane Byrne continued his unstoppable charge to the title with two third-place finishes.
With just three rounds of the season left, Andrews revealed his future on the British Superbike circuit is still up in the air as he awaits a firm offer from a top team.
“Next season is still undecided at the minute,” he said. “I’ve spoken to a lot of the top teams and I am at the top of their list which is a great position to be in.
“It all depends what the riders with the top teams are going to do because, for me to get into a top team, I need someone to move out and make some space.
“But I’m confident it’ll get sorted and I’ll be riding with one of them next year.”
