WORCESTERSHIRE scholar batsman Dave Wheeldon has signed a new one-year contract with the county.
The 19-year-old academy graduate has impressed in the second XI this term to earn himself his first professional contract.
The left-hander from Staffordshire has been in fine form for Damien D’Oliviera’s side this season, his best performance coming in the Second XI Trophy clash with local rivals Warwickshire.
Wheeldon hit an unbeaten 136 in the 50-over match before his leg-break bowling saw him return fine figures of 4-23.
The County are still to decide on the future of the other scholar on their books, Omar Ali, who is the younger brother of Moeen and cousin of Kabir.
