BEWDLEY Pines duo Kathryn Harvey and Kay Beaman have qualified for the 2008 PING Women’s Four-Ball Better-Ball Tournament of England.
The Worcestershire club’s pairing had to settle for the runners-up spot in the latest regional final, which was played at Marriott Breadsall Priory Hotel and Country Club in Derbyshire.
Harvey and Beaman needed a birdie on the last hole to match eventual winners Jane Whyatt and Shirley Kay, from Matlock Golf Club, but couldn’t quite manage it.
The Bewdley Pines twosome recorded 19 points on each nine for an 18-hole total of 38 points — one behind the winners’ total of 39.
However, the top seven pairs qualified for the grand final of the competition at the Marriott Forest of Arden Hotel, Golf and Country Club on October 7. The tournament is run by the English Women’s Golf Association.
Harvey plays off eight, is a county golfer and is currently ladies’ captain and club champion at Bewdley Pines.
She said: “You’re not supposed to do any good when you’re captain but I’m having a great year.
“It will be fantastic to play in the grand final. It’s an achievement and helps to put the club on the map.”
