TALENTED students from the University of Worcester are set to represent Great Britain at the World Universities Futsal Championship in Slovenia.
Education student Lewis Fitzgerald and Shane Gill, who studies sports science, have been selected in the 12-man squad and will join 15 other teams for the 11th championship.
“It’s great to be representing Great Britain Universities in a worldwide competition,” said Gill, who made his full England international debut at the World Championships in Malaysia earlier this year.
“The university has been extremely supportive in helping me combine my sport and studies and I’m hoping this latest tournament will begin to raise the profile of futsal among UK universities.
“It’s a fantastic, competitive sport to be involved in and is perfect for developing your essential football skills.”
The university is supporting the two students through its scholarship fund with Gill and Fitzgerald joining their team-mates to compete in a series of games from Sunday until the following weekend.
