EVESHAM United boss Paul West is looking for another big performance from his players as they face Gloucester City at St George’s Lane in the British Gas Business Premier Division on Saturday (3pm).
The Robins picked up an impressive 2-0 victory over one of the promotion favourites Chippenham Town on Tuesday night.
It was achieved with goals from Gary Hay and Danny Scheppel, his second of the campaign, and now they take on a side who narrowly missed out on the play-offs last term.
Like Evesham, the Tigers are without a permanent home after their Meadow Park ground was destroyed by last summer’s floods.
But West feels that is a major factor contributing to their success.
“It brings them closer together,” he said. “Like Chippenham, I think they will be up there come the end of the season. Tuesday night’s win was very pleasing but it was the performance that impressed me the most.
“It was a testament to my players and if we can keep doing that then we shall be where I want us to be at the end of the season. I am keeping that private for now though.”
West is hoping to have defender Michael Hayden back on Saturday against Gloucester, who have a new manager this term in ex-Bristol Rovers player Dave Mehew.
Division One Midlands champions Evesham, like the Tigers, have picked up four points from the opening two matches.
Gloucester beat Stourbridge 4-0 on the opening day of the campaign before securing a 2-2 draw at Tiverton with former Manchester United player Neil Mustoe scoring twice from the spot.
