WITH the rain clouds looming large in Tenbury, Worcester Dominies went into the Crusader Worcestershire League Division Four South clash hoping to glean as many points as possible before the weather intervened.

However, they came out with a 20-point haul after an inspired spell of pace bowling from Jamie Williams left the Tenbury innings in tatters and wrapped up a quick-fire nine-wicket victory for the visitors.

The 25-year-old medium-fast bowler’s match-winning exploits saw him claim fine figures of 6-32 as the home side collapsed to 55 all out on a slow and damp wicket.

His deadly spell has also earned him our cricketer of the week award as well as a £30 voucher to be spent in the Fearnley Factory Shop in Sherriff Street, Worcester.

Dominies skipper Matt Williams, Jamie’s brother, was glad he decided to hand his sibling the new ball in the absence of regular opener Saj Ali.

He said: “Saj normally opens the bowling for us but, as he wasn’t available, I decided to give Jamie a go.

“Our other opening bowler, Neil Trigg, claimed the first few wickets to fall but once Jamie got going he just ripped through the Tenbury batsmen.

“The Tenbury skipper agreed that we could start our innings before the tea interval so we could go for a result before the rain arrived.

“Thanks to Steve Miles’ 31 not out and Craig Weston’s unbeaten 19, we knocked off the runs needed in just five overs.”

It has been a successful few weeks for the Battenhall-based club as batsman Wayne Humphries recently clubbed six sixes in an over during Dominies’ league match against Ross-on-Wye.

But Jamie Williams is now expecting their impressive performances to hit them in the pocket as they will have to shell out for a few rounds of drinks on the club’s tour next week.

He said: “We are going on cricket tour soon and the guys have been having plenty of banter with me and Wayne that we will have to buy all the beers.

“It will cost me a fair bit — I might have to pretend I’ve forgotten my wallet when we go away!”

On his six-wicket match-winning showing, Jamie Williams added: “I bowled 13 overs in total but it took me five or six to find my rhythm before I picked up a wicket.

“After that, I found a good line and length, stuck to it and bowled three batsmen and three were caught behind.

“This is my comeback season for Dominies after spending a few years with Bosbury but these are the best bowling figures I have ever had. I still can’t believe it now.”
