WHILE the rest of the players have been out hitting the roads around New Road, skipper Vikram Solanki, vice-captain Gareth Batty and the country’s leading run-scorer Stephen Moore have gone up against South Africa.
No they weren’t late calls to the England Lions squad, although their quality leaves everyone around the county baffled to as why they are not, they have been playing for the PCA Masters invitational XI in the Twenty20 game against the Proteas.
Led by former England opener Nick Knight, the PCA Masters fell 23 runs short of the South Africans 181-4. Batty was the hosts’ most economical bowler with his four overs costing 25 and taking the wicket of Hashim Amla for 31.
Faced with such a daunting target the PCA tried to get after the South African bowling but Solanki was trapped leg before for two by Morne Morkel.
Moore shone with the bat hitting a 33-ball 52 which included six fours and three sixes.
