PAUL Dring, of Pershore-based Echelon-Spiuk, became the Welsh National 100-mile Time Trial champion when he won the open event in wet and windy conditions around Abergavenny.
He completed the course at an average speed of more than 26mph to win in three hours, 48 minutes, 10 seconds, taking 24 seconds off his previous best time over the distance.
His nearest rivals were ahead at the half-way stage, but he finished strongly to come home 42 seconds ahead of Merthyr CC’s Colin Wallace.
Irish visitor Rory Wiley (3:51.02) claimed third spot to set a new Irish national record.
In the Wyre Forest Rudy Project promotion, Adrian Bird took 10th, recording 1:19.16, while Simon Osborne finished in 1:27.53.
Steve Dring chose to ride two circuit events taking third at the Barnsfield Circuit in Dorset and fifth at Ilton Airfield in Somerset .
