THERE is a certain amount of dedication needed to follow your team the length and breadth of the country.
Worcester City are no exception and once again a coach-load of fans made the 300-mile round trip to West Sussex for Saturday’s 2-1 victory.
But surely it takes an ever greater level of commitment to make such journeys when you have no alligence to the club concerned.
One supporter who joined City’s ranks at the weekend was Ron Field from Redditch who booked a seat on the bus simply because he had never been to Bognor’s stadium.
Aston Villa fan Ron is on a mission to visit as many non-league grounds as possible and the trip to Nyewood Lane was number 488.
When Villa are playing at a ground Ron has already visited, he simply consults magazine The Football Traveller and, together with a few friends, picks a different ground.
Field has been to the majority down to Midland Combination level and has only a handful left in Blue Square South following Saturday.
Distance is not a consideration. Last week he was at Queen of the South’s Palmerston Park in the Scottish first division and he plans to take in Gateshead’s International Stadium while on holiday in Yorkshire next month.
Now that’s dedication.
