WORCESTERSHIRE Over 60s secured a 30-run victory at Sussex in the Shepherd Nea-me Home Counties Champion-ship.

Sussex won the toss and put the visitors in.

Worcestershire were soon in trouble. Some fine bowling from Hugh Milner and Andy Shanks left them reeling at 16-5.

When Milner (2-14) and Shanks completed their nine over stints the score had only moved forward to 19-5 with Shanks returning figures of 3-3.

John Brookes (35) and Martin Woodward gradually brought more respectability to the Worcestershire score ,adding 48 before Brookes was trapped leg before.

Woodward and Roger Price continued to improve the score before Price was run out, his younger partner not considering his lack of fleetness of foot.

The tail supported Wood-ward (35 not out) well as the score reached 103-9 off 45 overs.

When Sussex batted Worcestershire were given an excellent start with Cliff Rawlings catching Simmons in Trevor Knowles’ first over.

Sussex’s score had only reached 3-1 in the ninth when Price caught John Anderson to give Knowles his second wicket.

A further single was added prior to a direct hit from Dick Brown to run out Mike Watson but, then Peter Creese and David Grimes added a brisk 36.

The 12th man had to replace an injured Knowles (2-3 off six overs).

Rawlings bowled Creese for 24 and then Grimes for 18.

Martin Mudway (2-2) was introduced he took his wickets in successive balls and in the next over Martin Woodward bowled the stubborn Shanks as Sussex were all out for 73, giving Worcestershire a comfortable 30 run victory.

Rawlings finished with 3-19 and the economical Wood-ward conceded just six runs in his 8.3 overs.
