EVESHAM’S final warm-up match ahead of Saturday’s British Gas Business Premier Division opener at Bedford ended in a disappointing goalless draw.
The Robins had the better of the chances and hit the woodwork twice as they failed to find the net for the first time in their pre-season schedule.
The visitors did manage another clean sheet but had Karl Lewis’ agility to thank as he leapt superbly to turn over a last minute header from Gilbert Cummins.
The keeper had earlier been forced into a couple of second-half stops, while opposite number Andrew Kemp didn’t have too much serious action.
When he was beaten, the frame of his goal came to his rescue as Leon Woodley’s first-half strike hit a post and Steve Lutz saw a second-half effort clip the outside of Kemp’s right-hand post.
Manager Paul West introduced former Gloucester City striker Jimmy Cox midway through the second period.
However, a winning goal failed to materialise on an afternoon when Simon Fitter and Danny Scheppel both received cautions from Leamington referee Mike Bingham — strange decisions after he had earlier allowed Michael Hayden and Bedworth’s Paul Spacey to return to the action after sending them from the field following an altercation.
