WORCESTER RAIDERS were unlucky to narrowly lose 1-0 to Highworth Town FC.
Speaking before the game, manager Jordan Lewis, said the side were looking to 'put things right' against Highworth, after losing to them in controversial circumstances earlier in the season.
The first serious chance of the game came as Corson cut inside and looked to beat the goalkeeper. The shot evaded the keeper, but ultimately just missed the mark, and struck the post.
Highworth would respond quickly, a counter attack down the other end and a shot on goal was only kept out thanks to a superb save from Charlie Emery, pushing the ball onto the bar by his fingertips.
Highworth came again soon after, with a low shot that sailed wide of Emery's post.
Emery's save was matched soon after as Liam Banks struck one from distance. Highworth's keeper was forced to produce a strong stop to turn the ball away for a corner.
A back-and-forth first half, which saw both sides produce good opportunities, set the tone for the second half.
In a game that could have gone either way, fortune favoured Highworth as they were able to convert ten minutes after the break. A scrappy goal saw the ball pinballing around the box before being bundled over the line by Liam Haines.
Raiders looked to get one back following the goal, Banks provided a powerful strike from the edge of the area, before numerous opportunities came to squeeze it past the keeper from in close.
Highworth had one last opportunity in the game, forcing another strong stop from Emery to ensure the deficit didn't extend any further.
Ultimately, Highworth ran out 1-0 victors in a close game that could have gone either way. Despite strong pressure from Raiders following the goal, they couldn't convert a chance to draw level.
The result sees Raiders sitting ninth in the uhlSport Hellenic League, with their next game coming this Saturday (December 7), up against Cirencester Town.
