DROITWICH SPA FC received their first league loss of the season, as they fell to a 3-1 home defeat against Stonehouse Town.

The loss ends the sides' unbeaten start to the season, and their run of 15 games without defeat.

Missing key names such as Jay Saunston, Matt Williams and Cory Rudd, the first half saw a scrappy deadlock. Both sides broke through with opportunities, but neither sides' goalkeepers were troubled with the efforts.

The best chance of the half came as Alex Dugmore powered the ball towards Stonehouse's net, the spilled shot was then fired wide by Perry Moss.

Dugmore would go through on goal in the 30th minute, finding himself one-on-one with the Stonehouse keeper, before the linesman flagged for offside, much to the dismay of the Droitwich players.

Droitwich came out for the second period hungry to take the lead, and they started brightly as Moss attempted an audacious bicycle kick on the end of a deep cross from Jack Brighton - the shot fell just wide of the Mark.

The Magpies didn't receive their first chance of the game until the 57th minute where they opened the scoring.

Spencer Martin picked the ball up on the halfway line for Stonehouse, found a pocket of space, and hit one from 35 yards out. The shot lobbed the goalkeeper and fell in just below the crossbar.

Stonehouse were able to capitalise against the stunned hosts and double their lead soon after. Richard Thwaite scored somewhat fortunately from a free kick. Despite looking to cross the ball, Thwaite's hit evaded all the outfielders and Dom Rogerson, to find its way into the back of the net.

It was a nightmare period for The Saltmen as just 10 minutes after their first, Spencer Martin scored a brace, and his sides' third.

Martin finished from close range to all but guarantee victory for his side.

It was only thanks to some top saves from Rogerson that the score was not extended further in the ensuing minutes.

Droitwich did grab a consolation, as Moss picked up the ball in the area and slotted it home, but it was too little too later for Andy Crowther's side.

In the final minutes, Dugmore was sent off, for a second yellow, forcing Spa to finish the game with 10 men.

Spa will hope to forget the result quickly as they prepare for an Isuzu FA Vase tie at Abbey Hulton United this Saturday (December 7). If successful the side will reach the last 32 for the first time in the clubs' history.
