WORCESTER CITY WOMEN'S FC manager - Matt Jones - remains proud of his side despite their Adobe Women's FA Cup defeat, and looks forward to the opportunity to refine his sides' performance ahead of further league fixtures.

Worcester City lost 6-0 to a higher-division West Bromwich Albion side in the second round proper of the FA cup. However, the side equalled their best-ever FA Cup run by reaching that stage of the competition.

Speaking after the game, Jones said: "First of all, I just say how proud I am of the players.

"I believe the second time in the club’s history, getting to the second round proper of the women’s FA Cup – that is a remarkable achievement.

"When we consider where the club has come from, and where we are trying to get to. It is obviously disappointing after getting knocked out, especially after losing 6-0 but I think the score line tells the story of maybe the gulf in ability and we accept that we are where we are. We are working tirelessly to make sure we are challenging ourselves to get better."

The weather did have a negative effect on City's preparation for the game, forcing the side to miss out on training on both Tuesday and Thursday leading into the game.

"It has been a slightly hampered week missing training," said Jones. "Which I think would have been advantageous to us refining our out of possession plan to try and make things more difficult for West Brom."

With multiple lower division sides in the pot, going into the round, City were somewhat unlucky to draw such a strong side at this point of the competition.

"We have to accept that it is the beauty of the cup, you never know who you are going to be drawn against," said Jones. "So we respect West Brom and wish them well.

"But we will take the learning – certainly out of possession – that we need to apply to make ourselves difficult to beat, as well as how confident we can be on the ball, which we proved last week against Lincoln."

Worcester now have an opportunity to regroup before their next fixture against Peterborough United in the league on Sunday, December 8.

"[The break] is a chance to attack how we want to play," said Jones. "We have started to get a real foothold [on division four], started to learn about our opposition.

"So the next two weeks for me are about thorough preparation to make use of the two league games we have before Christmas.
