WORCESTER CITY WOMEN were knocked out of the Adobe Women's FA Cup at the hands of a strong West Bromwich Albion side, who put six past them.

Despite being knocked out, the side equalled their best-ever FA Cup run, reaching the second round proper for the second time in their history.

Despite West Bromwich competing in a higher division than City, the side came out ready for the game, and had the first chance. Annie Highway had an early attempt on goal in the first few minutes.

The opportunity called West Brom into action, as they responded quickly. Marli Rhodes was able to beat City keeper Kirst Bridgwater in the third minute.

West Brom stunned City again early on, scoring a second in the first ten minutes. After proving vital in the build-up to the first goal, Rhianne Oakley grabbed a goal of her own.

The home side would come close again soon after, with Jess Fassnidge producing a heroic goal-line clearance from Izzy Green's shot, to stop West Brom going further ahead.

City had a stronger period following this, keeping West Brom out until the 31st minute - where they increased their lead to three ahead.

City's flow was disrupted after the goal, as they were forced to make a substitution due to an injury to Jess Bate. West Brom scored their fourth in the 39th minute, before City had their best chance of the first half.

Annie Highway looked to claw one back before the break, with her shot beating the keeper, but falling wide of the left post.

After an intense first 45 minutes, manager Matt Jones made a pair of half-time changes, including bringing Nerea Othick on for her first minutes with the First Team this season.

City would give a stronger performance in the second period of play.

A deadlock ensued for until the 60th minute, where the home side scored their penultimate fifth goal of the game.

The period following the fifth goal was Worcester's best of the game, with fresh legs from substitutions, they looked as if they may get on the scoresheet themselves.

Chloe Bellamy broke through on the right of the box, but the ball was cleared by West Bromwich just as she looked to get her shot away.

West Brom scored their sixth and final goal of the game in the 76th minute, to see them comfortably through to the next round of competition.

A disappointing defeat, but still a valiant effort against a higher-division side.

City continue to fight on in their first FA Women's National League campaign, which recently has seen them beginning to find their feet - moving out of the relegation zone following a 4-0 victory over Lincoln City.

Next time out, City will face off against Peterborough United away from home.
