WORCESTER CITY WOMEN'S manager, Matt Jones applauded the resilience his side has shown all season, after they fell victim to a strong Barnsley side - losing 5-2.
The game saw City fall behind 4-0, fight back to 4-2, before seeing the game put to bed as Barnsley scored their fifth in the final minutes.
"We all know that football is a rollercoaster ride don't we, with its ups and downs," said Jones after the game. "We came under significant pressure to be fair to Barnsley, maybe we put ourself into one or two positions through our own doing."
Despite finding themselves in a four-goal deficit, City battled on, bringing the game back to 4-2.
Jones said: "4-2 is very different to being 4-0 down. That just shows the resilience in the squad is there, and we have seen that over the last few weeks.
"These players know that being in the national league and competing in these competitions isn’t easy. Our mission is to make sure that we are starting the game the way we are finishing games."
Both goals were scored by Annie Highway, who enjoyed a fantastic showing in front of goal. Scoring a great shot from outside the box, and then matching that with a curling free-kick from the left.
"Highway knows how important she is," said Jones. "But the squad also know what they bring in terms of super strengths.
"But Highway in particular today, she knows where the back of the net is, clearly found it and she is a playmaker at the best of times. A performance for her individually to be proud of, so really pleased with her."
In their first season in the fourth tier, City have struggled. They find themselves near the bottom-end of the table, keen to turn the tide and move towards safety from the drop.
"The glass is always half full," said Jones. "We entered into this with our eyes and ears open. It’s the first season in the club’s history at tier four, we were under no illusions about how difficult it would be. If it was easy it would be boring, we embrace the challenge.
"Next week we look forward to travelling to Lincoln, which we will do with the upmost confidence."
City play away at Lincoln next Sunday (November 17).
