WORCESTER CITY captain, Adam Mace, has praised his teams' 'great performance' after they triumphed 2-0 over Coventry Sphinx.
The game presented a tough challenge for City, who rose to the occasion, with Taylor Townsend and Elliott Hartley each grabbing a goal in the second half to take home the three points.
"Obviously a massive result," said Mace. "A different type of game today, a bit scrappy, probably not one for the neutral.
"Thankfully we had the two pieces that made the difference."
The win was another game in what has been a purple patch for City, they also picked up three points away from home against Wellingborough Town on Tuesday (November 5).
"Sometimes when you go through what you go through on Tuesday, you can go to a game on the weekend and lose, and Tuesday feels a little bit like time wasting," said Mace. "But it was a fantastic result.
"We had to grind, but two pieces of individual quality win the game.
"A fantastic result, great performance, and a win."
It was a stop-start game, with both teams feeling wronged by the referee at points. Worcester manager Chris Cornes was yellow carded for talking to the referee after the game was not stopped for a head injury.
"Don't get me wrong, it's not the first time we could probably be critical of a referee, but I just felt like he didn't let the game flow," said Mace. "There were some little fouls, he would miss one and give the other, and then we have got some lads down with head injuries and we are playing on.
"But who’d want to be a referee, I probably wouldn’t. We are at a good level, officials should be better in my opinion, but he’s there to do a job and he’s not there to put the ball in the goal for us so it is what it is."
City have now won their last four games, scoring eleven goals in that period and only conceding twice.
"I think winning is infectious, and thankfully we are on a great run," said Mace. "To have played the teams that we have played with some real good quality and come out with a couple clean sheets in a row, scoring goals, and different types of scorers as well where we are not reliable on one person.
"It’s been a fantastic couple of weeks after a not so fantastic couple of weeks. We’ve seen how quickly it can change but the reaction has been fantastic, everybody has bought in and we roll on now to next Saturday."
City will return to Claines Lane for their next league fixture. They face up against Boldmere St Michaels on Saturday (November 16).
