WORCESTER CITY captain Adam Mace is confident ahead of the sides' clash with Coventry Sphinx tomorrow (November 9).

City are on an outstanding run of games, winning five of their last six. Their only loss in that run was a close 3-2 defeat to Sporting Khalsa. Despite the result, it was arguably the sides best performance in that period of games.

"We've had some fantastic times at the club in the last 18 months," said Mace. "But [the Sporting Khalsa game] was probably the best performance. That was certainly the best performance that I have played in, in regards to how good we were and how good we looked. It was definitely one that slipped through the net."

Everything has seemed to gel for the side in this period, with strong showings at both ends of the pitch.

"We've been fantastic, the levels that we have shown as a group has been fantastic for the last three or four weeks now," said Mace. "This league is extremely challenging. It's been a lot more difficult than I personally thought it would be actually, if you don't turn up on the day you get beat.

"The last few weeks we’ve been fantastic, we’ve defended a whole lot better, with the addition of a couple of extra players that we’ve brought in we look more of a threat going forwards."

The fixture tomorrow sees third-placed City face up against a fourteenth-placed Coventry Sphinx side.

City have recorded double the points attained by Coventry thus far in the season.

"Normally you'd fancy your chances in the form that we are in and the bit of difficulty that they are going through, but anything can happen in this league," said Mace. "We go there full of confidence, especially off the back of Tuesday night and obviously the performance against Coleshill - to beat a team of that quality in the way that we did spurs you to kick on again.

"But you don't go in and underestimate them, we won't do that. We are confident in ourselves but not naïve."

The game is Worcester's second away fixture in a row, after travelling to face Wellingborough Town on Tuesday night. However, for Mace, the support offered by the fans - both at home and on the road - is a huge help.

"It is definitely an advantage playing at home because there is that less travel and its and it is unfamiliar settings when you're playing away from home.

"We are very happy that we have the support that we do because we know that we will turn up tomorrow and be backed by a hundred City fans.

"That carries great weight for us."

City kick off at The Sphinx Industrial Supplies Arena, at 3pm tomorrow (November 9).
