DROITWICH SPA have enjoyed an outstanding start to their league campaign this season.

The Saltmen remain undefeated in the league and sit in top spot of the uhlsport Hellenic Football League Division One - six points ahead of their closest rivals, Redditch Borough.

The side has won all seven of their home fixtures, as well as remaining unbeaten on the road, winning three and drawing two of their five away matches. They have scored 45 goals in their opening 12 games, 16 goals more than the next highest scoring side in the division.

Reflecting on their dominant start to the season, manager Andy Crowther said: "I think with what has gone on the last few seasons, we’ve got to the playoff finals and obviously lost tight games.

"Bringing in the experience that I’ve brought in this season, which I think we might have been lacking the last few seasons, it helps massively. The lads that have come in are fitting into the team ethos, we all get on as a group and with the players there is a mutual respect there.

“Everything has just knitted together and at the moment it seems to be working well. We approach every game the same and what we are doing at the moment seems to be working and hopefully will continue as the season goes on."

Crowther is keen that his side stay grounded during this high-flying period and maintain focussed on each coming fixture in order to maintain their form.

"We don't look past the next game," said Crowther. "Home form at Droitwich has always been quite good, it seems to be working, what we are doing. I try to keep the lads grounded.

"Obviously the start we’ve had has been unbelievable, I wouldn’t have expected it but its been a start that you couldn’t have dreamed for to be fair. Undefeated in the league. The only loss has been against Bromsgrove Sporting [in the cup], and hopefully it can continue to go on."

Droitwich play their next game against Southam United later today (November 2), a side that have lost 10 of their opening 13 games and currently find themselves within the relegation zone.

"Were concentrating on out next game at home to Southam and then we will look at the next game," said Crowther. "We take each game as it comes and we approach every game the same.

"We take each game the same, whether we are playing a team at the top or a team at the bottom, we approach it the same. The lads will be on it from the moment we turn up, that is the right mentality. I always try to drill into them that it doesn’t matter who we play you have got to have the right attitude and the right mentality. It doesn’t matter if its bottom or top, we approach it the same.

"Hopefully being at home with a decent crowd again, we can perform and get the three points."

Droitwich Spa kick off at 3pm today (November 2) at The Pavilion.
