Former Worcester Warriors club captain Ted Hill has been called up to the England squad ahead of the Autumn Nations Series.

The 24-year-old back rower, who now plays for Bath following Warriors demise, has been added to Steve Borthwick's 36-man squad for their opening match against New Zealand at Allianz Stadium on Saturday, November 2.

He joins George Ford and Alex Coles as the latest additions to the squad, while Tom Roebuck, Charlie Ewels, and Ollie Chessum have been released from the squad.

Hill, who was born in Worcester, replaces Chessum, whose departure comes as he awaits further assessment on a knee injury sustained during a training camp in Girona last week.

The Leicester Tigers forward, who was expected to play a significant role in the upcoming fixtures, could now miss the remainder of the autumn matches against Australia, South Africa, and Japan.

The injury is the latest setback for Chessum, who had surgery on shoulder and thumb issues earlier this year.

The squad is gearing up for a challenging series of fixtures, with Australia, South Africa and Japan all awaiting after their clash with the All Blacks.

Hill, who became the youngest Warriors captain in club history in 2020, has made quite the impression in Blue, Black and White this season, who currently sit at the top of the Gallagher Premiership.

Their most recent victory came at The Rec on Saturday (October 26), sweeping aside Sale Sharks 40-13, which saw Hill show off his pace and agility as he burst through two defenders and weaved past Gus Warr to cross the whitewash in a try-scoring, man of the match performance.

Head coach Borthwick has shown a preference for adaptability amongst the loose forwards, with the likes of Maro Itoje, George Martin and Ollie Chessum all having performed in the six shirt despite being specialist back rowers.

While primarily playing at blindside flanker this season, Hill has also proved his adjustability, impressing in the second row in Bath's West Country derby win over Gloucester at Kingsholm earlier in October.

The back rower, who first played rugby at Malvern RFC, will join fellow former Warriors Ollie Lawrence and Fin Smith in the ranks.
