A fatigued Droitwich Spa saw their cup dreams fall at the first hurdle in a 3-1 defeat to Bromsgrove Sporting.

The disadvantaged Saltmen suffered their first home defeat of the season at Kingy’s on Tuesday night (October 1), bowing out of the Worcestershire Senior Cup to their Pitching In Southern Central Premier Division neighbours.

Perry Moss' goal was just not enough as The Rouslers overwhelmed Droitwich with scores from Theo Robinson, Keiran Cook and Shaquille Leachman-Whittingham.

Bromsgrove demonstrated their prowess by dominating possession nearly from the beginning.

Droitwich, appearing apprehensive, struggled to ward off numerous early attempts on goal, with Cook's effort thwarted at the near post by Dom Rogerson.

Droitwich's Josh Hurdman responded for the hosts, hitting an ambitious effort from 35 yards that narrowly missed the target.

Bromsgrove, however, drew first blood at the 10 minute mark, thanks to former Derby and Watford player, Theo Robinson, who sent the ball home from close range.

Later, Robinson was denied another by the vigilant Spa defence, with Matt Jackson saving the day by heading a certain goal off the line.

Droitwich squeezed in a tenacious 10-minute spell of play before half-time, which saw Jack Brighton having a shot parried by Charlie McNamara's stellar one-handed save.

The second half of the match saw more opportunities for the Saltmen, with McNamara saving valiant attempts from Hurdman and Moss.

Droitwich levelled things up as Hurdman hared down the right wing, before finding Alex Dugmore who turned his marker and fired a low cross at the back post to be put in by a sliding Moss.

Droitwich boss Andy Crowther made several substitutions as fatigue set in after the Saltmen played nearly one hour with 10 men on Saturday (October 28) in their 1-0 victory over Clanfield 85.

The fatigue, unfortunately, showed in the final minutes of the match.

With only three minutes to spare, the Rouslers gained the upper hand when Cook headed in an unstoppable goal from close range.

Shaquille Leachman-Whittingham dashed the Saltmen's hopes by adding a third for Bromsgrove in the late stages of the game, racing clear of the outnumbered Spa defence on the counter attack, before tapping the ball home despite the best efforts of keeper Rogerson.

Looking ahead, Droitwich will host Cheltenham Saracens in the Marsh Challenge Cup Second Round on Saturday (October 5) at 3pm.
