League leaders Droitwich Spa are gearing up for one of the toughest away trips of their season against Abingdon United.

The Saltmen will travel to Oxfordshire on Saturday (September 14), to face the second-placed team in the Uhlsport Hellenic League Division 1 at 3pm.

This will be the first-ever meeting between the two sides, who currently occupy the top two positions in the league.

Both teams also lead the charts for the highest attendances in the division.

Abingdon have lost three of their opening nine games, including two defeats in cup competitions, and have scored 29 goals across the fixtures.

Their top scorers are Liam Burt, Joe Green, and Josh Jones, all with four goals each.

The Yellows have had a busy week, with a 7-0 victory at home against Ardley United Reserves in the Marsh Challenge Cup.

However, they followed this up with a 2-1 defeat against Aylesbury Vale Dynamos on Tuesday (September 10) evening, courtesy of a late goal.

Their last league game was a 5-1 win over Carterton two weeks ago.

Droitwich, on the other hand, had two of their fixtures cancelled at the request of their opponents.

While they received a walkover in the Marsh Challenge Cup, their league game against FC Stratford will be rearranged for a later date.

The Saltmen last played two weeks ago, securing a 6-2 win over Bewdley Town, who were then in second place.

An away win on Saturday would put nine points between the Saltmen and Abingdon at this early stage, with United having a game in hand.

Droitwich also boast one of the country's only 100 per cent winning records in the league system, stretching to eight games so far.

The clash will be hosted by Abingdon's Northcourt Road.

The ground offers covered seating and standing areas, a bar, parking, and hot and cold food.

Admission is £6 for adults, £3 for over-65s, £1 for under-16s, and free for under-12s.

For those wishing to travel, the coach leaves at 12pm from Droitwich Leisure Centre.

There are four seats available at £12 each.
