A Worcester football club has helped spur overweight men to lose 150 pounds in 12 months.

26 men shed the pounds with help from the MAN v FAT healthy lifestyle programme, promoting general well-being and a change in lifestyle.

MAN v FAT Football Worcester takes place at Perdiswell Leisure Centre every Wednesday night.

The organisers are always on the lookout for new members to join up and participate.

Statistics report that 66 per cent of adults in Worcestershire are overweight or obese.

The programme, which hosts over 8,400 players at over 150 clubs across the UK, was launched to offer alternatives to traditional weight loss classes.

It merges football with achievable weight loss goals for male participants.

Members are weighed at sessions and then engage in a 30-minute six-a-side football game.

Extra goal bonuses are awarded to teams based on their weight loss, which, together with the match score, constitutes a team's league position within a club.

The club’s coach, Christopher Lowes, said: "Something that really stands out about the group is the friendships that have been created.

"Social events outside of the football are an important part of that, we are all willing to help each other out."

"We have created a positive support network.

"When someone is struggling other guys will stick around to support, or offer to play if a team is short of numbers.

"That kind of support really build a sense of camaraderie."

New players are always welcome.

Lowes added: "We have spaces for new players and if you feel like you would benefit from being a part of our journey, get in touch.

"It's good fun and can lead to fantastic results".

Players also obtain off-the-pitch support, which include access to healthy meal recipes and fitness tips.

As part of their membership, players get complete access to the MAN v FAT online gym, allowing them to train at home during their spare time.
