The second oldest cricket club in Worcester is due to open its first pavilion at the end of the month.

Lioncourt Homes, a housebuilder, has donated a large amount of material to Martley Cricket Club's pavilion project.

Rachael Bibby, senior land and planning manager at Lioncourt Homes, said: "Group sports such as cricket play a vital role in helping children, and adults, to develop social skills, teamwork, problem solving abilities and overall confidence, as well as keeping fit and finding a new passion.

"My own daughter plays Under 8s cricket at Martley Cricket Club, so we’re delighted to be able to support the Club by donating materials to help them build their first pavilion.

"I’m sure that future families moving into our new housing development in Martley will get much joy out of this pavilion, providing the perfect environment to meet their neighbours and make new friends.

"Supporting the community is at the heart of Lioncourt Homes and we’re extremely proud to have been able to work with Martley Cricket Club on this very exciting project."

Martley Cricket Club has served Martley and surrounding villages for 165 years.

It now boasts one of the fastest growing junior sections in the country.

Stuart Watt, chairman of Martley Cricket Club, said: “This project has been five years in the making, following a conversation with players and their families about what we could do as a Club to improve our offer to local people.

“The materials generously donated by Lioncourt Homes have allowed us to complete the plastering and internal fit out of the pavilion with little expense to the Club, which, when we have had to raise over £250,000 to fund this project, really does make all the difference.

“We’re looking forward to welcoming many new Lioncourt homeowners to Martley Cricket Club in the coming years.”

Lioncourt Homes is building 83 new homes off Berrows Green Road in Martley.

The Martley Fields development will provide a range of two, three, four, and five-bedroom homes.

The first homes are due to be released for sale this autumn.
