A CHARITY cricket match in memory of a beloved former Chipping Campden High pupil will help struggling youngsters in Sierra Leone.

The match between Bretforton Cricket Club and Keele University took place on Sunday to remember Laurence Chinn-Brown, who, three years ago, tragically died of a brain haemorrhage aged just 22.

Over £2,600 has been raised through a GoFundMe page.

Laurence was a former pupil at Chipping Campden High School and had gained a First Class Honours Degree in Law at Keele University just months before his untimely passing.  

All proceeds raised from the game will be donated to Project 3580, which was founded by Chipping Campden High teacher Neil Morland 15 years ago after a nine-year-old girl died from malaria in his arms in Sierra Leone.

The girl, named Aminata, was one of 3,580 children under the age of 10 who died from malaria that year.

Thanks to the work of Neil's charity, that number has now dropped to around 300 a year.

Project 3580 has worked to save lives and improve the life chances of residents of the camp, raising over £250,000.

This cash has helped to provide over 4,000 mosquito nets, build two primary schools and the beginnings of a secondary school as well as a church, clinic, and two wells enabling people to have clean drinking water.

All proceeds from the match will be put towards the renovation and refurbishment of the Primary School Block, which will be named after Laurence.

Laurence played cricket as a junior for Bretforton and was a member of the cricket team at Keele University.

Following his passing, his teammates wanted to set up an annual charity match in his memory.

Guests at the cricket match were also able to enjoy a barbecue and traditional English Cream Tea.

A raffle and an auction were also held to raise extra cash.

Stuart Brown, who was involved in the fund-raiser, said: "We know Laurence would have been proud to be associated with such a wonderful charity.

"The game itself was a great success with Bretforton getting revenge over Keele who won last year's game.

"Thanks to all those who came to support and donate so generously to such a wonderful cause.

"A big thank you to all the players, particularly those from Keele who are no longer at the university but travelled from as far away as Carlisle to take part."
