Worcester City Women's first team not only won the WFA County Cup, but also inter-club bragging rights as it beat its Development Team 7-0.

Goals from Leah Ritson, an Olivia Mitcham double, Jess Fassnidge, Holly Rogers, Hollie Congrave and Annie Sime saw the first team run riot at Sixways.

The match was action-packed from the start.

The first team were fast out the blocks, as Laura Davies and Sime partnered up in midfield to send Ritson racing down the left wing, who hit a tremendous strike that saw the ball deflect into the net off the right post.

Despite the fast pace set by the First Team, the Development Team did not hold back early, threatening with a counterattack led by Elspeth Hill that would be expertly denied by goalkeeper Sofia Stolt.

In the 19th minute, Mitcham was first to react to a scramble in the box, nodding home to double the first team's lead.

She assisted the side's third a few minutes later, weaving the ball to Fassnidge to tap in.

By the first half's end, Mitcham had another of her own, battling through the Devs defence to score.

The Devs were first to wake up following the interval, however they were unable to stop Holly Rogers from slotting the ball past goalkeeper Leia Carter in the 50th minute.

Congrave, having assisted Mitcham earlier, claimed a stunning goal of her own soon after, finding the top corner from a long-range effort.

Despite several attempts at a comeback, the Devs could not break down the first's strong defence.

Sophie Griffiths from the first Team had a near-miss, but the relentless pressure led to Sime scoring the last goal of the game in the 85th minute, working her way through to score into an empty net for the final goal of the game.

The first's triumph will undoubtedly boost morale as they head into the final countdown of the West Midlands Regional Women's Football League.

The squad's final clash of the season will come in a few weeks time, when Shifnal visit Claines Lane on Sunday, May 19.
