ATHLETES from Kidderminster and Stourport Athletics Club enjoyed success at the final cross country meets of the season.
The senior men’s team travelled to Burton Dassett to take part in the fourth and final instalment of the Birmingham & District Invitation Cross Country League 2023-2024 Season on Saturday, February 10.
It was a tough course to finish the season with but the men’s team of Oliver Fearn, Brian Currier, Robin Fearn, Will Price, Paul Roberts, Martin Wilmott and Terence Bedington put in a strong performance. Oliver Fearn’s impressive running saw him crowned winner of the U20 trophy.
Whilst the men were away at Burton Dassett, the ladies team made the short journey to Top Barn in Worcester.
There was a fantastic turnout from the club and Kidderminster and Stourport were able to field three teams on the day.
Thanks to strong runs from Sarah Velasquez, Selina Topham, Katie Lambert, Lucy Vaux-Harvey, Laura Pickering, Kay Fearn, Debbie Moran, Coralie Hill, Jenny Clee, Kirsty Inkpen and Lauren Bennett the club finished 13th out of 24 teams overall and 11th out of 21 in the master’s category.
The ladies team finished the season in 12th position out of 28 teams.
The club’s junior athletes completed their cross-country season on a very muddy and soggy course in Aldersley, Wolverhampton.
The club picked up a small number of trophies on the day to round off what has been a promising season.
The day started with the U17 women producing a solid team performance to seal a magnificent position of 3rd team overall against other strong well-known clubs.
Amelia, Mia, Oona and Iona showed great team spirit by completing all five races this season.
In the U11 boys’ team, Ben produced a storming run working through to finish 4th on the day.
Nicole demonstrated consistency, finishing 3rd overall in the U13 girls’ category.
The U11 girls team had an excellent final race with 10 athletes running for the club, three of which finished in the top 25 on the day.
The club is now looking ahead to the track and field season.
Kidderminster and Stourport Athletics Club train at Stourport Sports Club every Tuesday and Thursday from 6pm.
