After an impressive performance at a national tournament, a promising young boxer from Worcester has been ranked the third best in his weight class in England.
Jay Powell, 15, who goes to Nunnery Wood High School, has trained at Worcester ABC since he was eight, and has competed in 16 fights across the country, including matches in Birmingham, London and Essex.
Mr Powell clinched the third ranking in England’s 50 kilogram category after reaching the semi-finals at a national competition in Blackburn.
At the tournament he marginally lost to the number one ranked boxer in England by split decision.
The year 10 student, an emerging talent within the country's youth boxing scene, said: "My parents encouraged me to start boxing to help me improve my focus."
Praising his gym, he added: "I really enjoy taking part in the championships and really enjoy my sessions at Worcester ABC.”
