WORCESTER boxer Caitlyn Wise continues to impress in the early stages of her career and she was once again on the podium at the weekend.
Wise, who boxes out of Worcester ABC (Worcester Amateur Boxing Club), was crowned Women's Winter Box Champion for 2023 on Sunday after winning her final bout with Elivia Frampton from Athena ABC.
She now adds the gold medal to her list of achievements following her bronze medal for Team England at the European Junior Championships in Romania in July, as well as becoming a national champion this time last year.
The 16-year-old started well and was able to keep Frampton at bay, but mid-way through the fight, Frampton weathered the long-range storm and managed to get in close and let her shots go.
Wise had to change her game plan and went back to long-range shots, catching Frampton with a crisp rear hand causing the referee to deliver a standing eight count.
Frampton heard the final bell and again the result was in the judge's hands but it was Wise who had her arm raised to land the title.
It was not just Wise in action for Worcester last weekend. On Friday, Jay Powell boxed former opponent Connor Hawkins from South Derbyshire Boxing Academy.
Powell went into the bout confident having previously stopped Hawkins in the Championships a month ago, but it was a different story this time around.
Both boxers landed clean shots and the decision came down to the judges, who awarded Hawkins the winner by split decision.
Jayden Bryce was also in the ring last weekend. He boxed K Young from Lydney ABC in Gloucester.
Young, a very tall rangy boxer, attempted to keep Bryce away but Jayden's head movement and footwork allowed him to move in and out, scoring shots to the head and body.
This was Jayden's best performance so far this season and the judges had no choice but to score it unanimously in the Worcester boxer's favour.
