WORCESTER ABC boxer Ryan Jones kept his hopes of national glory alive after a pre quarter-final win in the National Association of Boys and Girls Clubs Championships.
Jones, representing the Midlands, was fighting East Midlands Champion Levi Ward (Imps Boxing Centre) in Birmingham at the Acocks Green Boxing Club.
Jones used his spearing jab to set up good combinations and force Ward onto the back foot early on.
A straight right in the third round knocked his opponent's head back and prompted the referee to step in and issue a standing eight count. The decision was left to the judges at ringside who gave the Worcester boxer all three rounds and a win by unanimous decision.
Jones now joins his teammate Jayden Bryce in the Quarter Finals next week, as well as Jay Powell who boxes in his pre quarter final.
On a different show also representing Worcester City ABC in Longbridge, Will Bagley boxed in his second bout and won by unanimous decision.
Head Coach at Worcester ABC, Mick Underwood, said: "What a fantastic weekend it has been for the club, with Caitlyn Wise representing her country and winning and Ryan putting on a great performance in the championships."
Wise was the standout news of the weekend, fighting for England, and winning, in the series with Ireland to back up her bronze medal at the Junior European Championships last month.
